however, what i do know is how darn cute the dress she is wearing is! (-:

everybody knows that spring is mostly about cute sundresses and fun shoes…but one of my favourite spring rituals is cleaning out my dark leather purse, putting it on a shelf, and finding a new, lighter weight, brighter coloured one for spring!

this is the one i have my eye on for this season…

The snow is melting, the crocuses are starting to peek through the soil, the birds are singing and we’re dusting off our bikes getting ready for Spring. While we know that we might still get another taste of winter after this week of awesome warm weather, the Workshop Gals  know it won’t last because of the Workshop Spring Trunksale is just around the corner and it’s how we really kick off the Spring Season!

That’s right folks! We’ve set a date for our infamous Spring Trunksale and we’re giving you all a chance to revamp your spring wardrobes at  serious discounts. Our 5th annual Spring Trunksale is going to be our biggest to date.  Mark your calendars ladies, the sale will start April 5th from 6pm to 9pm for our kick off party. Caddy can teach anyone to knit!  She has created a casual, informal beginner class where you can learn the basics of knitting. Students have the option of knitting a pair of arm warmers or a scarf, so go ahead, sign up and make your own accessories! Yarn and needles are included.

Caddy has made this fun intermediate project-based knitting class for those who have knit before but want to learn new skills like knitting in the round, purling, increasing and decreasing while making their own fabulous legwarmers or a hat! Yarn and needles included.

In this class, Heidi will teach you the basics of sewing while you make a cute wrap skirt to show off this spring! Students must bring their own fabric and matching thread. Now, that’s a wrap!

By popular demand, Caddy is offering another Knitting Skills Class which will include skills like cabling, intarsia, seaming, picking-up-and-knitting, 2-colour-stranded, reading patterns, and a bunch of other, super fun knitting stuff! Yarn included, students must supply their own 4-5mm needles.

Sips & Slips: Crochet Basics!

Who says crochet is just for Grannies? Let Sandra D teach you the basics of crochet as well as how to make all kinds of super cute crochet accessories (think flower brooches and circle beads!) in this two-part beginner’s workshop! Colourful wools, a crochet hook, fun patterns and a home made instructional handout are all included!

This class is all about beading! Kids, ages 7-10 will have a great time learning all about beading and making fun necklaces, bracelets and other great things with Laura!

Many of you ladies likely know the work of Ottawa designer Jasmine Virani (you can also find her on facebook).  Her collection is subtle and lovely, handcrafted in sterling silver, with just the right amount of accents.  If you have ever had the opportunity to meet her, you would also know that she is a about as nice and happy as you can get!  But did you know about why Jasmine is so special to us, here at Workshop and Flock?

Years and years ago (circa 2004), Christina, Jasmine and I met while selling our handcrafted goodies outdoors under those sketchy looking tents at the Byward Market.  Every morning, coffees in hand, we’d unload our stuff, set up our tables and tents and settle in for a long, hot day on the asphalt…

Needless to say, chit chat was the name of game and the three of us spent an uncountable number of hours hanging out on plastic lawn chairs and getting to know each other.

So, anyway, 8 years have gone by and Jasmine is now a celebrated local jeweller with a collection that is so unique I want every piece. And best of all, we’re giving away one of her fabulous pairs of earrings!

The ladies of Workshop and Flock

the ladies at both flock and workshop have been out of their minds with all the great stock that keeps showing up on our doorstep!  the hold bin is bursting and i recognize most of the names on the slips…therein lies the best perk of the job!  (-:

and the good news, of course, is that it’s not going to stop any time soon!  this great floral top should be coming in on thursday…i’m super excited to start adding a few pieces to the hold bin too! (-:

This morning I was woken up at 6am by my 4 year old, balancing a tray of chocolates in one hand and a cup of coffee in the other, while singing “Happy Valentine’s Day to You!” as loud as she could, in the tune of happy birthday, of course.

I must admit that Valentine’s Day has not been on my radar for the last decade or so…my husband is not the chocolate and flowers type and i’m more the drink champagne with the girls type.

But this morning was different.  Our four year old made us all wear red and pink (quite entertaining trying to find either red or pink in mine or my husband’s wardrobe) and she stood behind her dad giving clear but definitive directions while he carefully poured batter into the pan to make heart shaped (well, kind of blob shaped) pancakes.  Kinda fun…

Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone out there…today is the only day of the year where eating chocolate out of heart shaped cardboard boxes from the drugstore is perfectly acceptable.
