Since the holidays are always a great time for appreciation and thanks (well, anytime is a great time, but at Christmas relatives and friends tend to be on hand), we wanted to thank all our customers, friends and family for your support of us and our business.
When Christina and I opened Workshop – almost 7 years ago, yikes! – we had hoped that there would be enough like-minded people around to support a business like ours. Both our Dads and some of our friends were quite sure that we were nuts, yet they wielded a hammer/paintbrush/glue stick to support us anyway.
Now our business has grown to 3 lovely full time staff ladies and a whole slew of others who are in and out, always smiling. Our dream has come true.
So, today is a thank you day: thank you from each one of us and from each one of our designers: thank you to our customers for supporting handmade and buying local. You are all proof that personal decisions have an effect in our community.

People often come into Workshop or Flock and tell us how lovely the shop is. They tell us how creative and bright and eclectic the design is, but mostly they tell go on about how we have achieved the pinnacle of organization!
This always gets a chuckle from the staff because Workshop and Flock are shops run by a bunch of crazy artists (us).
So, today, just for the fun of it (Christina is going to kill me), I’m going to let you into the Flock basement…welcome to the world of crazy!

A Little Rain won’t Get us Down! Shop Dalhousie tonight, 6-9pm!

Snow or no snow, Christmas is a mere 9 days away! Can that be true?
True it is. And, since this weather is just so lovely, tonight is the perfect night to step out (bring your rubber boots!) and wander along Dalhousie Street where all the shops will be cooking up fun and festive ways to bring the holiday spirit into your home!
Make it a handmade holiday this year and pop by Workshop for 10% off everything in the store plus goodies, raffles and of course, the big Dalhousie Street Raffle Prize, valued at over $300 (see earlier post)!

Just wanted to post a few pics of the crafty goodies made by the kids who joined us last Sunday for our “Listen Sweetie, Momma’s Gotta Shop!” event! We hope to do regular events like this in the future – where the kiddies are in our classroom space being crafty and creative and the momma’s are engaged in another kind of creativity (finding the perfect dress) upstairs!

hmmm...the prizes seem to be occupying the street...
This is a pic of the huge gift basket that some lucky shopper will win this Thursday night (Dec 15th) at the Occupy Dalhousie Street Holiday Shopping Night! It is a bunch of goodies from each of the participating shops valued at over $300…wouldn’t that just top off your holiday perfectly? You could give some of the goodies away…or, well, maybe keep them for yourself…we’ll never tell! (-:
So, don’t forget to stop by Workshop on Dec 15th for a chance to win it as well as an opportunity to let us help you find the perfect handmade gifts to put under your tree. Holiday Hours Are Here!

Between work, play and all of those fun christmas parties, you may need a little more time for holiday shopping! After all, it does take some time to find the perfect handmade gift…

Tonight is going to be a seriously big, fun night on Wellington West! 28 businesses (that’s huge!) are participating in this year’s shop hop, so you’ll need to block off a couple of hours to do your holiday shopping right!
Join us for an evening of anti-mall, anti-big box!
Grab a couple of friends and wander down the street tasting samples from local restos, having goodies at others and, of course, popping by Flock to get something lovely and handmade for everyone on your list! Doesn’t that sounds like something that would even put the grinch in the holiday spirit?
At Flock, we love a great party, so tonight we will have goodies and raffles and best of all, 10% off everything in the shop!
As you may already know, our designers have been working hard to fill our shop with tons and tons of great gifts to put under your tree, so it’s easier that ever to buy local and buy handmade this holiday season!

The Ladies of Flock
the wreath said to the ladies: hang me, already!

people who know us know that we are very crafty ladies over here at flock boutique. crafty yes, handy no… crafty and handy, as it turns out, are not the same thing.
you only have to look at the flock wallpaper to know that while the hanging of it was super fun, we didn’t, um, exactly get it in a straight line… but, seriously – what can you do? artists, by their very nature, tend to be a little crazy and not very meticulous ~ but what we lack in marketable skills, we make up for in fun! right? yes, we’re fun!
so christina made us three of the most glorious tulle wreaths for our front window and geez…we have spent the last three days trying to hang them! our ceilings are very high, the “no more nails” didn’t work (maybe we should have used actual nails) and so today we’re going to do it the way crafty ladies have been doing it for generations: tape.
