The Christmas ornaments for the Silent Auction are in and on display in the store! We are in awe of the designers for pitching in and putting their talent and creativity to work for such a good cause.
Silent Auction forms are around the corner from the cash, near the bags. Can’t find them? Don’t be shy to ask our staffers for help. They will be more than happy to show you (and to chat about the lovely ornaments).
Our first ornament profile is: Tiger-Get-By. You may recognize the name from the amazing earrings, cowls, and brooches that you’ve seen at the store. Jennifer crafted a stunning set of three origami stars made from striking black, gold, red and green paper. She joined the three stars and added a jeweled tail (think: like a kite’s tail). This eye-catching ornament will spruce up any household in need of festive decoration.

Come and see the Tiger-Get-By Origami Stars live and in person at the store…and don’t forget to bid! All proceeds raised during the Silent Auction will be donated to the Dalhousie Parents’ Daycare.

Preschooler Ornaments!
Now that our Hallowe’en costumes are packed away, visions of good deeds and unique Christmas ornaments are dancing through our heads.
We’re excited to announce our first-ever silent auction with proceeds going to support the Dalhousie Parents’ Daycare in central Ottawa.
Our fabulous designers, local artists, and Workshop staff are generously donating handmade, one-of-a-kind ornaments to the cause and for that, we are so grateful. A warm Workshop thank-you goes out to:

Adding to our stash of gorgeous ornaments is our crew of designers-to-be. Yes, the little ones from the Dalhousie Parents’ Daycare made ornaments too and we just can’t get over how cute they are!

Toddler Ornaments!
Next week, we will be hanging the ornaments in the shop window so you can check out the amazing creations for yourself. The silent auction will go throughout November and will end a couple of weeks before Christmas so successful bidders can trim their trees in time for St. Nick’s arrival.
As a special treat for our blog readers, we’ll post photos of the ornaments online so you can check them out before you come down to bid on your favourites!

Christina just loves this edgy new line that is one of the newest additions to the Workshop family. Slashpile Designs comes to us from twin designers Tara and Courtney Neray, of Toronto.
While it is difficult to pick favourites among Slashpile babies, when pressed, Christina admits to loving the especially fun and crazy earrings and necklaces that represent the chemical compositions of such necessities of life as water, caffeine and alcohol.

Water earrings ($30), Alcohol earrings ($80), and Caffeine necklace ($100) by Slashpile Designs
You’ve gotta see them to believe them!
Come on in to check out the entire line, which also includes gorgeous lost & found stacking rings and pendants made from pieces of the Canadian Shield or rocks from the Niagara Escarpment.

Autumn has always been Erika’s favourite season. Crisp weather, the smoky scent of wood fires, pumpkin pie…Oh, and the clothes! Fall clothing lines mean plaid, jewel tones and cute woolly skirts. This Créations Encore “La Jupe Winona” ($79) embodies all that Erika loves about fall shopping and it seems to have been made especially for her!

Pottery by Helen
Call me biased, but the new pottery we got in last week is my absolute fave pick! Some of you, but not all, know that each Pottery by Helen piece is beautifully hand crafted by my mommy!! Yes, the woman who gave birth to me, raised me and put up with my incessant nagging for more crayons, popsicle sticks and pompoms made each and every gorgeous piece you see here!
Mom is an amazing potter. She has been working on a wheel almost full-time for the last 8 years and I absolutely love her style. She hand throws all of her pieces and creates all of the handles, imprints, cutouts and details by hand.
She is an absolute purist: she makes all of her own glazes and uses only non-toxic components. She uses all kinds of different clays, but my favorite is the speckled cream one that you can see in the photos. Her glazes are yummy cotton candy colours: pinks, blues, and yellows.
As I write this blog post at my window, I am drinking out of one of her white speckled mugs. The cup nests perfectly in my hand.
Thanks Mom. So happy to have you at Workshop!

We didn’t even have to ask Bri what her favourite thing was!

The Snow Skirt by Fantasy World Heroes
She came into the store on her day off to extol the virtues of the Snow Skirt by Fantasy World Heroes. Bri’s shopping energy is infectious and we all gravitated toward the rack of mysterious Snow Skirts ($165).
How do you wear such a piece? And over what?
The tag answered all of our questions. The Snow Skirt can be layered over pants, dresses and skirts to add warmth (and style!) to the chilly winter days and nights ahead. They are lined with lush satin and trimmed with faux fur. Some are wool, some are quilted, ALL are fabulous!
We asked Bri how she’ll wear her Snow Skirt…She laughed and said she’ll layer it over her PJs for walking our new shopdog, little Cocoa Chanel, the teacup poodle.

Snow Skirt...Up High!!!
Come on in and see the Snow Skirts for yourself…We promise, you won’t regret it!

At Workshop, we take our jobs very seriously. We are so very eager to share our enthusiasm for the gorgeous, unique and affordable pieces in the store. So eager, in fact, that we decided to stop hogging all the fun and regularly share photos of our staffers sporting their favourite things.
Emily just can’t get enough of the Aurora mini dress by Jennifer Glasgow ($168).

Jennifer Glasgow Aurora Mini Dress
For starters, Emily looooves black and white. She was caught off guard by the impromptu photo shoot today and her black and white shoes and pearls were part of her outfit. Ahh, serendipity!
As well as the timeless colour combination, Emily also loves the high neck and the white cuffs on the arms.
This dress solves any “nothing in my closet matches!!!” dilemma. Wear it to work, to dinner & drinks, to brunch & the museum…It can take you anywhere!

Thanks for stopping by and stay tuned for more of our Favourite Things!
